The role of data center environmental monitoring has evolved over time as has the data center being monitored. As data centers have migrated from low density cost sinks to high density competitive operational advantage opportunities, our need to understand the environmental conditions in these data centers has changed in both degree and substance, and the current proliferation of monitoring systems, sensor packages, and integrated controls reflect that increased importance. Despite the relatively recent explosion of new products, new companies and promotional rhetoric, I believe we are still well in front of the tipping point on fully realizing the benefits of these monitoring and associated solutions.

Room alert

Room Alert is AVTECH's complete solution for "Advanced IT & Facilities Environment Monitoring, Alerting & More". It is designed to monitor temperature and environment conditions in multiple locations up to 900' away. All Room Alert packages allow users to log environment sensor status for immediate alert notification, historical review and graphing. Alert notifications via email, email-to-SMS, SNMP and more communicate to devices like computers, mobile phones, iPhones, BlackBerrys, pagers and PDAs. Room Alert offers an easy to use web browser interface for configuring settings and viewing real-time sensor status from anywhere.

Room Alert models monitor for conditions such as temperature, humidity, power flood/water, smoke/fire, air flow, room entry, motion, heat index, sound, light and much more. Room Alert is perfect for environments such as phone or wiring closets, critical rack cabinets, large computer rooms or data centers, multi-building facilities and facilities of all types and sizes. They are connected via Ethernet and do not require a host PC for operation. Room Alert will help protect valuable equipment and other important assets to minimize downtime and reduce losses if a disaster does occur.

Didactum`s Monitoring System 500-DC is specifically designed for the remote monitoring of energy and telecommunication infrastructures. Designed as a maintenance free very robust IP alarm server, there are no moving parts such as air vents or disks in Didactum`s monitoring device.
This high-end user friendly measuring and monitoring system is equipped with an internal 24 - 48V DC power supply. Didactum`s monitoring system 500-DC works as a completely stand-alone device. No other software or hardware is required. Thanks to fully supporting SNMPv1, SNMPv2 and SNMPv3 this remote monitoring device can be easily integrated into third party SNMP tools and Network Management Systems such as Nagios or OpenNMS plus many others. The required SNMP MIB files are also included.

Zone POD/InterSeptor Pro can also be used to extensively record temperature/humidity data for graphing and analysis helping you not only to ensure your IT equipment is running under optimal conditions but also to quickly identify where air-conditioning systems could be run more efficiently to maximise energy savings. 

Combined with early-warning alerts via Email, SNMP, SMS and/or our unique automated Voice telephone messaging facility (Alert Centre), interSeptor Pro will help ensure that IT rooms and racks are operating at optimal conditions and that remedial action can be taken quickly in the event of a rack temperature problem or any other alarm condition.

The unique design of the interSeptor Pro means that 2 additional Go-Probe alarm sensors (water leak, security, smoke, power, etc.) can be connected to each temperature/humidity probe. This means the 24-port device, for instance, has the capacity to support an incredible 48 additional alarm sensors, giving complete long-term flexibility in terms of sensor deployment.
